Avast is a global leader in digital security and privacy products. With over 400 million users online, Avast offers products under the Avast and AVG brands that protect people from threats on the internet and the evolving IoT threat landscape.
Avast Research Labs runs innovative projects in all areas of digital safety, from threat defence, over privacy to identity. In threat defence we employ state of the art and in-house AI solutions to counter the ever accelerating growth of threat landscape, and the accelerating emergence of new types of attacks. Avast ResearchLabs builds on in-house experience in combination with academic cooperation and support of publicly available research.
We cooperate with universities across the globe, mostly in Americas and Europe, either directly or through research consortia with industrial partners.
The mission of the Private AI Collaborative Research Institute is the development of fundamental technologies that are instrumental in strengthening the security, privacy, and trustworthiness of decentralized artificial intelligence.
Research is addressing secure, trusted, and decentralized analytics, and compute at the edge. By decentralizing AI, the institute plans to liberate data from silos, protect privacy and security, and maintain efficiency.
The Private AI Collaborative Research Institute was originally established by Intel’s University Research & Collaboration Office, which then invited Avast, a global leader in digital security and privacy products, and Borsetta, an AI software-defined secure compute hardware company, to collaborate on the institute.
The Artificial Intelligence Center (AIC) is an excellent research institution at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU), one of the largest and oldest tech universities in Europe.
Founded in 2001 by Michal Pěchouček, AIC has grown to become a world-class research center with an international team of about 70 researchers who work on over 30 projects supported by Czech, EU and US funding agencies as well as companies. The center is very excited about establishing joint research labs with industrial partners to help them increase their competitive advantage. The largest so far is the „Avast AI & Cybersecurity Lab“. The mission of AIC is to solve real-world problems through cutting-edge artificial intelligence research and to invent innovative technologies.
The primary research focus is on moonshots or important challenges that our society will face in 10 to 20 years and develop the necessary skills and tools for their successful solution.
